For our duck products, we work with Martin Daasbjerg – an organic farmer from Denmark.
Martin and his wife Birthe have been breeding Pekin ducks at their family-run farm since 2008. The animals are raised in Martin’s fields in Vinderup by the Limfjord, in north-west Denmark. In 2015, Martin set up his own slaughterhouse in the village of Struer, just a few kilometres away. This means the animals only have to travel a very short distance, minimising their stress.
Martin’s ducks are treated with compassion and benefit from a peaceful setting, fields where they can roam and fresh forage. This is the secret behind his exceptional quality.
At just one day old, the ducklings are transferred from the hatchery to a barn with a ‘veranda’. Once they have been raised to the age of two or three weeks old, they spend all their time in fields full of clover, grass and herbs with permanent access to water. Martin looks after his ducks personally every day and is both passionate and compassionate.
